Steve has performed both in bands and as a single act for over 40 years, playing acoustic 6 and 12 string guitar, resonator slide guitar, some mandolin and banjo. Becky has sung since early school years and continues to lend her beautiful voice to not only our group, but to the local Mountainaires choir in Estes Park. Jake has been a musical performer since childhood playing drums and singing with “The Shimon Family” on many tours of the midwest in his early years. After moving to Colorado, he and his brothers formed the popular “Whitewater Brothers Band” and later, “True North” and local favorite “Country Time”. Fred stared out back east as a drummer with several bands through his early years, switched to bass after moving to Colorado, and has played with several northern Colorado groups. His girlfriend “Matilda”, the stand-up bass, holds up the foundation of the band. Kirk comes from a gospel and bluegrass background and adds a new dimension to the sound of ChildsPlay with his fine guitar pickin’.

That is a long-winded path to answering the question of “What kind of music do you play?” As you can see, the band’s members come from many musical backgrounds. We call our musical offering “dirt road folk”. Music you’d expect to hear down the road at your friend’s house, or coming from the radio while you work on your car, or clean the house. There is no particular genre of music that we prefer. We think folks love all kinds of music, and we try to provide a mix of genres that represents a little of everything. You won’t hear much top 40 from our band; but, you will hear stuff from many varied artists that you don’t get to hear from other groups. Some old country, some classic rock, some old and new bluegrass. Examples are: If I Had A Boat by Lyle Lovett (written by Guy Clark), I Don’t Believe You’ve Met My Baby by the Louvin Brothers (circa 50’s), several of Dan Fogelberg’s lesser known songs, Have Mercy by The Steep Canyon Rangers, The Wrestler by Bruce Springsteen. You get the idea!

We’re always on the look-out for new songs to add to our set lists. You may not hear the same songs at any two shows. We hope you will give us a listen and enjoy what you hear!
